This image shows the remarkable PIlatus PC-6 Turbo Porter, or just Pilatus Porter, which served the Australian Army from Vietnam right up until the early 90's.

A versatile STOL aircraft, the Porter was able to land and take off in extremely short and unprepared strips and had a significant glide ratio.

200 litre fuel drums could be hung from underwing hardpoints or rocket launchers fitted and with outward opening cargo doors, the cargo compartment could fit six troops or significant stores for transport into the field.

The Porter was also an effective intelligence gathering machine and radio retransmit capable aircraft.
