Corporal Darren Drummond decided to join the Army later in life than the average soldier, and his maturity and effective leadership was noted by his receipt of the 3rd Brigade's Junior Leader Award.

A native of Adelaide, Corporal Drummond decided to join the Army not only for security of employment, but also to fulfill a desire to emulate his father; a veteran of the New Guinea campaign of World War Two where he served with the South Australian 2nd/27th Battalion, 2nd AIF as an infantryman. The 2nd/27th saw action in the Middle East at the outset of the war before returning to Australia to fight the Japanese. The Battalion's colours include battle honours for Kokoda, Gona and Balikpapan.

Corporal Drummond has done his father's memory proud with service with 2nd Cavalry Regiment in Iraq during Operation CATALYST, and now, his service as a Transport Supervisor with 3rd Combat Service Support Battalion of the Australian Army's 3rd Brigade has also been lauded by his peers and superiors.

During 2006, Conway Bown deployed to the Middle East as the Australian Army's Official War Artist, what the US Armed Forces call Combat Artist. This website features the artwork created during this project as part of the Australian Army's Official Art Scheme.
