"Major Simon Moore-Wilton was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for his leadership of the Security Task Group, 2nd Reconstruction Task Force in Afghanistan during 2007. A personal friend of the artist, MAJ Moore-Wilton spent time with the artist studying French at the ADF School of Languages at RAAF Base WILLIAMS at Point Cook, Victoria. With his new skill, MAJ Moore-Wilton then undertook an exchange posting to the School of Infantry in Canada."

"This image was inspired by the work by noted war artist, CAPTAIN Ivor Hele who sketched a commando named Allan Cecil Oehlman of the 2/3rd Australian Independent Company on his return from jungle patrol in New Guinea . In From Patrol, the name of the sketch, is held in the Australian War Memorial. My work is painted in oil on camouflage canvas and is almost life-sized with the frame standing 1.9 metres tall."
