2011

This image shows various colour schemes of the Westland Sea King Anti Submarine Warfare Helicopter. The Sea King SK50 is operated by the Royal Australian Navy's 817 Squadron in the role of Maritime Support. On top is the current subdued grey pattern; in the middle, the Bi-Centennial celebrations colour scheme and on the bottom, the white over grey scheme with darker markings.

Originally, the Sea King was acquired for Anti-Submarine Warfare duties but with the introduction of the Sea Hawk, the ageing Sea King was given a Life of Type Extension and re-roled to Maritime Support undertaking such duties as logistic support ship to ship and over the shore, medivac, board, seize and capture operations and training.

During the Queensland floods of early 2011, the Sea King showed that even an old airframe is still very useful with the aircraft providing stirling service to the civil community.

The Sea King is slated to be retired from ADF service in 2011.
